Research Statement
My research lies at the intersection of society, ecology and economy, with a focus on ecosystem services, sustainability, and nature-based tourism. I aim to advance a deeper understanding of the economic value of ecosystems and to inform policies that balance environmental conservation with socio-economic development- particularly in ecologically sensitive and legally complex regions such as Northeast India.
One of my core research interests is the valuation of ecosystem services, with a particular focus on peri-urban wetlands. My work explores how economic valuation can be integrated with community-driven conservation strategies to enhance ecological resilience while supporting sustainable livelihoods. Within this framework, I place special emphasis on the recreational services of natural resources and their role in fostering sustainable tourism. Complementing these valuation studies, my research also examines the development of community-inclusive legal and institutional frameworks that strengthen wetland governance and promote sustainable tourism practices.
Looking ahead, I intend to broaden my research to investigate the interface between environmental economics and environmental law—particularly how valuation studies, cost-benefit analyses, and policy impact assessments can inform legal reforms and conservation jurisprudence in India and beyond. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NLU Meghalaya, I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary collaborations that explore how legal-institutional mechanisms can strengthen community rights, incentivize conservation, and facilitate pro-environmental transitions in natural resource management.
