Postgraduate Programme

The Postgraduate Programme at National Law University Meghalaya will be offered in two forms :-
​​​​​​​(i) Regular two years Residential Programme and
​​​​​​​(ii) Micro-Degree Credit Postgraduate Programme (MDCPP) offered in hybrid mode along with short campus stay. The total credit requirement for MDCPP will be the same as Residential Postgraduate Programmes and will follow the same credit requirement for Taught and Non-Taught Courses. The students may convert MDCs (Micro–Degree Credits) in Postgraduate Degree on completion of stipulated credits

  • Master of Laws [LL.M (Major in Criminal Laws)]
  • M.S. Public Policy Analytics

Definition of Course Levels in the University:

200s General Topics, 100 Prerequisites;
300s More narrow topics, 200 and 100 Prerequisite;
400s 300 Prerequisite;
500s Specialised Courses - 400 Prerequisite or Graduation;
600s More Specialised Courses – 400 Prerequisite or Graduation;
700s Highly Specialised Courses – 500 and 600 Prerequisite [PhD level Courses].

To complete the Postgraduate Programme requirements, a student must accumulate a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 140 credits within a two-year period.

For Postgraduate Programme, the following category of Taught and Non-Taught Course shall be offered to students as approved by th Academic Council from time to time:-

Course Definitions:

  • Foundation Courses: shall be 400-500
  • Core Courses: Six courses of two credits each shall be offered for Postgraduate students. The course level for Postgraduate courses shall be 500 – 600.
  • Depth Elective Courses: Depth electives are grouped together under specific legal domain heads for Postgraduate Programmes. Postgraduate students are required to select electives from among the 500-level courses and above.
  • Pen Elective Courses (including Advanced Teaching - Learning, Advanced Writing, Critical Thinking and Research-led Courses):
    • In Advanced Teaching - Learning, Postgraduate students have to assist faculty in Undergraduate Programmes. Such assistance shall include preparing course content, readings (study materials), research topics, and project proposals. Students may also be involved in cooperative teaching in class with the faculty members associated with them.
    • Advanced Writing will include submitting a research paper on small empirical work or data analysis on a defined problem, case comments, book reviews, etc.
    • Critical Thinking will involve theoretical analysis of a conceptual framework.
    • Research-led Courses will redefine the micro-domain to emerging understanding in the existing domain or emerging knowledge domains.
